EA’s Battlefield Faces Release Date Dilemma Amid Competition

2025 is looking like a stacked year for triple-A video games, with numerous big hitters set to launch later in the year. However, EA’s Battlefield may face a tricky job carving out some space for itself due to the release dates of competing games. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 is still down for release in fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, while Activision’s Call of Duty is expected in October or November. EA has invested heavily in Battlefield and wants to make it the biggest yet, but may need to consider release dates from competing games when working out its launch timing. EA CEO Andrew Wilson has admitted that the company exists in a competitive marketplace and may even be willing to delay Battlefield if necessary. The new Battlefield is expected to launch before April 2026. If GTA 6 launches around the same time, EA may need to push Battlefield back to the first quarter of 2026 or bring it forward. Alternatively, if GTA 6 is delayed until Q1 2026, EA may need to push Battlefield out of the fiscal year and into the next.
