Brigand: Oaxaca Update Brings New Features, Fixes, and Enhanced Gameplay

September 30, 2025 - Today, fans of the challenging post-apocalyptic RPG/FPS Brigand: Oaxaca have something to celebrate. The highly anticipated update for the game introduces a wealth of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements that promise to elevate the gaming experience even further.

The most notable addition is the nearing completion of the Final BATTLES map, which will offer players an intense showdown as they navigate through this pivotal area. Modders have also been given exciting tools with the fully scripted Guitar object, enabling them to play six distinct notes, adding a new layer of creativity and expression to the game.

In addition to these features, approximately 50 new assets have been introduced, some specifically designed for use in the upcoming BATTLES map. Others are available for modders to experiment with, fostering an even more vibrant modding community around the game.

Efforts to streamline the game's file size have also yielded results, with the removal of alternate filetypes and high/low quality textures and sounds from the EXTRAS DLC. This adjustment saves approximately 1GB of space, making the game more accessible for players with limited storage capacity.

New additions include:

  • 47 new objects added to DEFAULT assets, mostly catering to modders.
  • Sound effects for the guitar (guitar1.wav to guitar6.wav) and ambWind2.wav ambient sound have been integrated.
  • Snowy textures added to DEFAULT assets for the final BATTLES map.
  • A new baddie type: ghoulCorrupt, which explodes with poison gas upon death in the final BATTLES map.
  • Icons fixed for Boom Plate and Boom Tray; an icon has been added for Guitar.
  • A list of objects has been provided in the Docs folder to aid modders.

Furthermore, several bugs have been addressed to enhance gameplay:

  • The issue where Widow Demon corpses reset their frame when leaving and returning to the map has been fixed.
  • The NIGHTMARE AI problem causing Carrion Demons to attempt eating fish underwater has been resolved.
  • Tio's position in Loma Larga during dismissal from the party was overlapping with a cig vendor; this has been corrected.
  • Bug where sentients with extra animations had corpses that looked alive upon returning to the map has been fixed.
