MakeRoom New Release: Enhanced Features and Japanese-Style Decorations

MakeRoom New Release: Enhanced Features and Japanese-Style Decorations

Date: September 15, 2025

MakeRoom, the beloved sandbox game that allows players to build rooms, gardens, and camper vans with over 1,000 objects, has just launched a major update packed with exciting new features and enhancements. This release introduces innovative tools for customizing your creations, along with a fresh batch of Japanese-inspired decor items.

Highlights:

  • Hiding and Locking Objects: Players can now hide or lock objects to streamline their creative process. Hiding an object makes it temporarily invisible, while locking prevents accidental selection until unlocked. Both features are available in the diorama creator and object creator.
  • Sample Objects Added: A set of sample objects has been introduced in the object creator, providing inspiration for building tables, sofas, chairs, and more. These samples were created by community member Silthulhu, with more on the way!
  • New Japanese-Style Items: The update introduces a variety of new items featuring a Japanese aesthetic, including shoji doors/windows, tatami mats, chabudai, kotatsu, and more.

New Features:

  • Press TAB (or START on gamepad/Steam Deck) to toggle the interface
  • Add ability to hide objects (press H to hide, press CTRL + H to unhide all)
  • Add ability to lock objects (press L to lock, press CTRL + L to unlock all)
  • Sample objects added to the object editor
  • Changed available save slot pages from 10 to 25
  • Add 'New' button to object editor
  • Rearrange menu items in object editor
  • Add progress display on requests screen
  • Add option to set the gamepad sensitivity
  • Rearrange the options menu
  • Change 'Back to menu' button after completing request to a notification
  • Small improvements to icons
  • Add sample chashitsu made by Silthulhu

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed incorrect color swatches for custom objects
  • Fixed button on CRT monitor model
  • Fixed small issue when selecting reference guide in editor
