The Local Receives Critical Security Update for Unity-Based Games
October 03, 2025 - Today, the popular fast-paced movement game The Local announced a significant security update to address a critical vulnerability affecting all Unity games built with versions 2017.1 and later. This update ensures player safety without altering gameplay functionality.
The main branch of the game has been patched to fix this security issue, while maintaining its core features including five distinct gamemodes, vibrant multiplayer interactions, and an expansive playground-like world. Players can continue mastering their movement skills and competing on leaderboards with confidence in a secure environment.
Additionally, the modding community has received a substantial update as well. The modding branch is now at version 1.3.0, incorporating the same security patch and achieving 100% parity with the main game, including access to the Super Board feature. However, older modding branches have been disabled due to security concerns.
